Dr. Quarles is a native of Detroit where he attended public school. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. degree in zoology. After receiving his M.D degree from Howard University College of Medicine, he went on to complete his dermatology residency at Howard University Hospital. Prior to recently joining Virginia Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center, Dr. Quarles privately practiced Dermatology in Hampton Roads for over 30 years.
Not only is Dr. Quarles board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, he is also recognized as a fellow in the American Academy of Dermatology and has served as the Chairman for the Dermatology Section of the National Medical Association. In 2008 Dr. Quarles was voted Practitioner of the Year by the National Medical Association.
He is an active member and leader in national, state, and local medical/dermatological societies. In addition to his active membership, Dr. Quarles is a contributor to national, state, and local journals, newspapers, and magazines. Dr. Quarles has been a Healthcare Correspondent for Local News Affiliates for over 20 years. He is most proud of his contributions to text books entitled "Dermatology for Skin of Color" and "Ethnic Dermatology, Principles and Practice."
