Cheryl L. Lonergan, MD, FAAD
Dr. Lonergan graduated with honors from Cornell University and received her medical degree from the University of Virginia. While in medical school, Dr. Lonergan was honored to receive the Grotton Alexander Litz award for clinical excellence and “outstanding ability to interact with patients on a personal level” as well as being named a Bowman Scholar for exemplifying “the qualities of integrity and uncompromising strength of character and enthusiasm for acquisition of skills to provide the best possible patient care and compassion for the ill.” In addition, she was elected to the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, as well as the Pathology Honor Society. Upon graduation, Dr. Lonergan received the Janet Glasgow Award for graduating at the top of her medical school class. Dr. Lonergan completed both her Dermatology residency and her Dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, VA.
She is an Associate of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as being a member of the Dermatology Foundation, the American Society of Dermatopathology and the Maryland Dermatologic Society. She has held faculty positions at both the University of Virginia Health System and The University of Maryland Medical Center, and she is board-certified in both Dermatology and Dermatopathology. Dr. Lonergan currently divides her time between the practice of clinical dermatology and her work as a dermatopathologist. Her areas of clinical expertise include general and medical dermatology with a particular interest in the use of phototherapy for the treatment of a wide variety of skin conditions.
In addition to being a physician and a mom, Dr. Lonergan enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors – especially with her family.
