Repurpose your Pumpkin into Skincare!

Now that Halloween is over, don’t just let your pumpkin rot! Some might roast pumpkin seeds or make pumpkin pie, but jack-o-lanterns can also serve as the main ingredient in many skin-saving remedies. Pumpkin is defined as a superfood for a reason, and its vitamin E and fatty acids can benefit all skin types. In addition, its diverse healing properties include dissolving dead skin cells and promoting the growth of new ones, brightening and smoothing skin, fighting acne, and boosting collagen levels to fight aging.

So rather than watch your pumpkin wilt away in November, try out some of these easy pumpkin-based recipes that use common household ingredients:

Moisturizer:

Mix, apply to skin, leave for 10-15 mins and rinse!

-1/2 cup pumpkin puree

-1/2 cup coconut oil

-1/2 tablespoon cinnamon

Face Mask:

Mix, apply to face, leave for 15-20 mins and rinse!

-1/4 cup pumpkin puree

-1 egg

-add a dollop of honey for dry skin or apple cider vinegar for oily skin

Face or Body Scrub:

Mix, apply to face or body and rinse!

-1 cup brown sugar

-2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree

-1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Moisturizers, face and body scrubs, lip scrubs or face masks are just a few options when it comes to treating your skin to some pumpkin TLC. Furthermore, these pumpkin alternatives are not limited to just the skin! Hair, lips and feet can also be improved through the use of pumpkin. And we love homemade recipes like these because they contain natural ingredients rather than potentially chemical-filled drug store alternatives.

Of course pumpkin can’t solve everything, so if you’re experiencing more than minor skin problems, we always recommend seeking the advice of a dermatologist. To learn more about scheduling an appointment, click here!
